19 Terence McKenna Quotes To Ignite Your Journey of Self Discovery

1 “We have been to the moon, we have charted the depths of the ocean and the heart of the atom, but we have a fear of looking inward to ourselves because we sense that is where all the contradictions flow together.”

2 “We are told No, you’re unimportant, you’re peripheral – get a degree, get a job, get a this, get that, and then you’re a player. You don’t even want to play that game. You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.”

3 “The major adventure is to claim your authentic, true being, which is not culturally given to you. The culture will not explain to you how to be a real human being. It will tell you how to be banker, politician, Indian chief, masseuses, actress, whatever, but it will not give you true being.”

4 “Claim your place in the sun and go forward into the light. The tools are there; the path is known; you simply have to turn your back on a culture that has gone sterile and dead, and get with the programme of a living world and a re-empowerment of the imagination.”

5 “Life lived in the absence of the psychedelic experience upon which primordial shamanism is based is life trivialized, life denied, life enslaved to the ego.”

6 “There is no liberation to compare with freeing oneself from the illusions and delusions of the age in which one lives.”

7 “You have to take seriously the notion that understanding the universe is your responsibility, because the only understanding of the universe that will be useful to you is your own understanding.”

8 “The world which we perceive is a tiny fraction of the world which we can perceive, which is a tiny fraction of the perceivable world.”

9 “One thing that these Buddhists have certainly gotten right is that attention to attention is the key to taking control of your mental life.”

10 “Not to know one’s true identity is to be a mad, disensouled thing — a golem. And, indeed, this image, sick-eningly Orwellian, applies to the mass of human beings now living in the high-tech industrial democracies. Their authenticity lies in their ability to obey and follow mass style changes that are conveyed through the media. Immersed in junk food, trash media, and cryp-tofascist politics, they are condemned to toxic lives of low awareness. Sedated by the prescripted daily television fix, they are a living dead, lost to all but the act of consuming.”

11 “The surface of things is not where attention should rest.”

12 “I see the psychedelic experience as a birthright, and we can’t have a free society until people are free to explore their own mind.”

13 “Nobody is smarter than you are. And what if they are? What good is their understanding doing you?”

14 “If the words ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ don’t include the right to experiment with your own consciousness, then the Declaration of Independence isn’t worth the hemp it was written on.”

15 “How do we fight back? By creating art.

16 “Science is the exploration of the experience of nature without psychedelics. And I propose, therefore, to expand that enterprise and say that we need a science beyond science. We need a science which plays with a full deck.”

17 “Capitalism is not a human being. Capitalism is a Moloch, a god, a god of bloody sacrifice that sees human beings as ants.”

18 “Think about our dilemma on this planet. If the expansion of consciousness does not loom large in the human future, what kind of future is it going to be?”

19 “For me, what all these years of psychedelic taking came to was a new model of how reality works, a new model of what the world is.”

In Pursuit of Your Dreams

“The closer he got to the realization of his dream, the more difficult things became…In his pursuit of the dream, he was being constantly subjected to tests of his persistence and courage. So he could not be hasty, not impatient. If he pushed forward impulsively, he would fail to see the signs and omens left by God along his path.”

— Paulo Coelho

In pursuit of your dreams, you will be tested.

& if you choose to pursue your dreams – & the journey of your dreams – you will reach a point where sirens will screech into your ears.

You may encounter a cyclops, & perhaps witches who try casting spells upon you…

As you pursue your dreams you may even feel at one point the entire world calling out to you – to go to them & to stop following your dreams.

The noise may get so loud that you temporary (or permanently) lose your mind or go crazy…

haha, & it’s all alright – all a part of the marvelous universe dancing, even dancing with you & your dreams.

I encourage you to seek your best dreams & to surround yourself with people who encourage & uplift you.

Patience is not only needed in the beginning, but along every step of your way.

Enjoy 🙂

Attention, Daydreaming, Focus

These three words have similarities & differences.

There are different ways & levels of attention, focus, concentration, and then there is daydreaming – which is a sort of focus within; a meditation.

There is not one right way of living for all people. There is a vast range of ways of living, just as there is a range of attention, focus, and also daydreaming.

It is all okay.

Here’s a relative Henry David Thoreau quote:

“If a man does note keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.”

Listen to YOUR own drummer.

Listen to the music YOU like.

Read the books YOU enjoy.

Do the activities YOU like.

This is not selfish. This is self care.

Take care of yourself first, and if you need to care for others, then you can do so, but make sure you put your life jacket on first.

Attention, Daydreaming, Focus…oh the places you’ll go…

A Million Dreams

A Million Dreams…

This great song by Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, and Ziv Zaifman expresses dreams of a new world.

A new world that we are creating, together. All the time.

Every day we are creating reality – our reality, which contributes to the collective reality.

What are you contributing?

Here are a couple posts I’ve written about dreaming, to help you begin:

The Power of The Dream

Your Dreams Are Yours

& here is the beginning lyrics of the song A Million Dreams🎶

“I close my eyes and I can see,

The world that’s waiting up for me

That I call my own

Through the dark, through the door

Through where no one’s been before,

But it feels like home…

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy,

They can say, they can say I’ve lost my mind,

I don’t care, I don’t care, so call me crazy,

We can live in a world that we design…

‘Cause every night I lie in bed,

The brightest colours fill my head,

A million dreams are keeping me awake..

I think of what the world could be,

A vision of the one I see,

A million dreams is all it’s gonna take..

Oh a million dreams for the world we’re gonna make…”

I prefer Pink’s version, here.

Know Your Why

Why are you doing what you are doing?

Are you just staying busy or are you actually being productive?

And more importantly, what is it that you actually want to do?

What dreams do you have?

And how are you achieving them?

There is a big difference between being busy and being productive.

And we all have experienced both.

What’s important is what you do Today.

Know your why and then take action.

Patience

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.”
– Aristotle

Where are you going?

What’s the rush?

Sometimes a sense of urgency is necessary, and sometimes it’s not.

And sometimes we’re all so busy rushing around that we forget the joy in this moment.

Take a deep breath.

Be here, now.

And from here, you can go anywhere.

Direction

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.”
– Lao Tzu

The direction of your life depends on you and your vision.

(if you aren’t happy with your life currently, a new vision might help)

Dream.

Pray.

Dream some more.

Pray some more.

And now you’re on your way.

Do It Today

“Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”
– Lao Tzu

What dream do you have?

Are you taking actions towards your dream?

What is one thing you can do today to begin turning dreams into reality?

It won’t happen overnight, but it won’t happen until you first have the dream.

4 Important Pieces Of Career Advice I Learned While Interning With Ryan Holiday

When I landed an editorial internship with Ryan Holiday in 2018, I felt like I made it. Fame and wealth were on the way!

At the time, I felt like I had accomplished what was necessary and was on my way to the top. What I didn’t know at the time was the heroic responsibility that comes with this type of work, and I momentarily lost sight of my purpose.

What I learned is that the life-changing writing work we do as authors, writers, transformers, and creators is why we do it

It’s not about getting famous and wealthy. It’s truly not.

It’s about becoming the best version of ourselves and creating work that helps others do the same. The fame and wealth, if meant to be, are by-products.

Now, as you adventure toward your purpose, your why, here are four things I learned while interning with Ryan Holiday that may serve as guides.
